Spean team sat with Mrs. Bopha Sokna, Deputy CEO of Sonatra MFI, to explain about the MFI.
Spean: Can you introduce your MFI?
Mrs. Bopha: After we obtained license from National Bank of Cambodia in late 2010, we started operation in early 2011, based in Boeng Trabek branch, in the Financial Institute of Cambodia(FIC) building.
In the beginning, our team was very small which had only 5 staffs including CEO from Japan, me, 1 accountant, and 2 credit officers.
We later moved to our Head Office at the current location and now have 8 branches in total.
We aim to help low income people who have difficulty to get a loan from big banks.
We help these people get access to fund to alleviate poverty in Cambodia.
Sonatra offers different kinds of loan products including Consumer loans- Motor loan, Electric equipment loan (e.g. mobile phones, laptops, televisions etc.), Cash loan, SME loan that is bigger size and individual loans for home improvement and business expansion etc.
Another type of loan is bridging loan for1-3 months for a quick term.
SME loan, Individual loan and bridging loan together comprise the biggest portion of the total portfolio whereas Consumer loan comprises smaller portion.
